Description

A contribution by Wolfgang Held

Jupiter and Saturn are the two classical planetary giants in the solar system. In their rapid rotation, their calm course, they represent identity and independence. When they are in conjunction, their opposition reveals itself, an opposition that is also found so enigmatically in the human countenance. Jupiter radiates outwards, Saturn shimmers inwards. This time this conjunction is outstanding because it takes place on the day of the winter solstice, the day of the birth of the spiritual sun, and because Pluto, the planet of the threshold, stands between them. Death and life thus orchestrate this great encounter, which is also the fifth in a special sequence of Jupiter-Saturn conjunctions. The lecture takes us from the astronomical phenomena to the human and social situation today, in a pandemic in which death and new life likewise meet us.
