For Learning and for Work
Transcribed by AI, not reviewed. How these texts are made
Both learning and working are the reasons why we join school, but we also could say this is in a certain sense the essence of what we are here on Earth for, for learning and for work. And for the teachers, learning and work come together, learning is our daily work, and working is for us to learn.
A very warm welcome for the World Teachers' Conference in 2027 at the Goetheanum. How to learn and to work in the context of artificial intelligence, how to learn and to work for social life and for peace, and how to learn and to work for our relationship to nature and environment. How do we prepare as teachers, for that what we will do together with our students in school?
So we will have a roundtable and conversation about how we prepare facing artificial intelligence and facing the need for autonomy and the desire for creativity.
The meditative preparation, meditation as a path of knowledge, the power of our collaboration amongst the teachers. How do this common collaboration can become a source for our inspiration and for our pedagogical challenges?
There will be keynote lectures of course, but also panel discussions, research presentations where you can choose a field of interest, discussion groups where you can bring your field of expertise and research, so we try to make a collaborative meeting where everybody can be active.
Also you can discover the Goetheanum area, the working place founded by Rudolf Steiner, and there will be many student presentations and artistic happenings in the evening.
Of course, we hope that many, many of you can come to this place and for those who will not possible to come, you will be able to follow some lectures in live streams.

World Teachers’ Conference 2027
30 March to 3 April 2027
The theme of the World Teachers’ Conference 2027 is that which constitutes the life of the school: Learning – weaving oneself into what is already there – into what has gone before us, for which the human being longs and with which it connects through birth. Working – transforming the already existing world through active participation in what happens, inscribing oneself into world events and becoming oneself in this process.
What is one in school for, day after day? We make it present to one another – the children, the young people, the teachers – “for learning and for work.” The life of the school. Learning and working are the elements to which the human being has set out. The continual broadening of the horizon of world and knowledge, as well as the active shaping of shared reality, are the foundations. They form the substance of destiny in adult life. The school of life. In being a teacher, both dimensions unite. Life in school becomes a school of life in which pedagogical practice and knowledge of the world must connect and permeate one another. The school of life and co-responsible world citizenship legitimize teaching and enable us to say to the children and young people every day: This is our shared world.
At the conference, we will share and deepen these dimensions of being a teacher—of being a world teacher, of world-teacher-being—which Rudolf Steiner repeatedly emphasizes in the pedagogical courses in England, with colleagues from all over the world. For without this task there is no school. School is a place where, from the beginning, learning and working, participation and transformation are practised and lived.
